New Tardis Key 2.0

OK, so I submitted a picture of this before but i had made some upgrades to it since.


This key was purchased from eBay from a seller that had purchased the entire stock of these from a woman that had made these back in the early 80s while Peter Davison was in the role of the 5th Doctor. It was ether an aluminum/resin or solid cast aluminum piece.

It has a nice original design to it that I love but needed a little something to make it great. What I had done was file the edges nice and smooth and work out the symmetry to the over all key. The key has this nice sandy teture to it and i love that but it originally was all over those patterns in the front. To make them stand out i filed and sanded them nice and smooth. The casting is a little rough and there are small voids and pits and such from the casting process, as such the edges of the patterns have a nice eroded and ancient look to them that I really love. Lastly, i made an aluminum ring at the top for the chain. Originally i made it flat but that had a tendency to scrape at the nice sandy texture and so I made a circular one instead. I shaped it around the thin end of a metric socket from my wrench set. Then I got this really wonderful snake chain from a close friend as a birthday present and it just looks SO natural on there as opposed to the ball and link chain.

I posed it on a keyboard with the light from the screen to light it. Most people never notice but this picture was taken on the 45th anniversary of Doctor Who and so I arranged it so the DR and the 45 keys are visible but the chain covers the rest of the keys...well, apart from the X key.


So yeah! There are my new upgrades.
