Horror Icons 'Remakes' by Police-Box-Traveler Horror Icons 'Remakes' by Police-Box-Traveler
Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, and Leatherface. Four of the most well known and most recognized of the Horror movie genre. All seemingly unstoppable and all the stuff true nightmarish horror is made of!

Here we have the remake version of the four icons. Are the remakes better, or worse? That's a matter of some debate but I myself thought they could have been a whole lot better and at the same time a whole lot worse. They seem to be so middle of the road that most people don't have a lukewarm feeling about them. I myself think that the Friday the 13th remake needed better pacing but was still pretty decent. I really don't like the Rob Zombie Halloween remake-imagining-a-reboot-a-thon. and I am one of the few that actually prefers the PREQUEL to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, hence why the TCM Leatherface iin this shot from that film. And Nightmare on Elm Street had SO much potential and SO much of that movie was done right but they tried to do too much to remind us of the old film they forgot to try something new. Also, too many jump scares. However, there is one thing I think we can all agree on...the toys are AWESOME!

All the figures in this shot are the NECA figures and yes, I know there are two figures available for the TCM remake but again, I liked the prequel better and I still wanted all NECA toys in this shot so the prequel is what you get! :D

I'm really pleased so far with the new stuff NECA has been putting out and especially the new articulation making these figures much easier to pose in more then one pose! Now if someone would just update the classic Freddy, Jason, Leatherface and Michael Myers with the new articulation like the Remake Freddy and Jason seen here, I'd be pretty happy.

EDITS: Well I am really happy. Ever since McFarlane and Mezco Toyz dropped to the way side NECA has really stepped up and os of this update, have released two, two figure waves of Freddy from the classic ANOES films, their first wave of Evil Dead 2 figures and are getting ready to release two new Jason Voorhees figures from FT13th Parts 3 and 4...well, basically Part4. It's a battle damaged Part 3 Jason but that's BASICALLY the same thing. Soon the next wave of Freddy figures with a syringe fingered set of hands from Part3 and a first ever Part5 figure are getting ready to be released soon.

Sorry I don't take requests I'm afraid. Besides, none of these Freddy figures have articulated legs for any kicking poses.

Meh, says you. Thing is though, If you don't like the remakes, then this pic isn't for YOU. I have one made with the classic versions for folks like you whom only care for the originals: [link] Not that I blame you but please feel free to post positive comments there rather than wasting my time posting negative comments here.

I didn't like the remake for several reasons. One was that they demystified the villain by unmasking him and doing so halfway through the film. Unlike many masked killers Leatherface was never unmasked and i wouldn't have minded so much if they did so towards the end of the film. On top of that...he wasn't just a guy but again, disfigured as an explanation to why he cut peoples faces off to wear...just boring. Also, at the end, a girl, scared out of her mind, took Leatherface's arm off with a meat cleaver in five or so whacks...cleanly off, through the bone while he was moving and trying to start a chainsaw....no. That is bullshit. Even an actual butcher with a MUCH stronger arm can't do that with a pig bone. a living human wearing clothing, moving...just no and especially not a scared girl taking wild swings cannot do that. that is bullshit. Oh and let's not forget that by doing so you basically emasculate your villain and rob him of what makes him really scary. No, those two things really got under my skin and ruined the film for me. Beginning was the FAR superior film.

I think they did everything right and did something with the story that was a bit different than what we had seen but still familiar and I liked how they explored Leatherface's origin while keeping the character instantly recognizable and the atmosphere of the film more like the 1978 version and they didn't remove Leatherface's mask or do anything to say have his arm removed. If you ignore the remake and treat the prequel as a stand alone movie it is FAR superior.

well i like the 2009 verison of jason because it makes him look cool and his style is simar to his FvJ style(lets hope the'll call the squeal for short a 13 part 2 simar to the short title for h2)
and freddy his new face i think its okay with me(and you think his claws look silly
and for leatherface, don't know much about the character one of the things i know of him are of him using a chainsaw

Zombie's Halloween? Yeah they were crap XD Well, the second one more than the first. The second one they had Michael hallucinating his mother who was telling him to kill...ripping off Jason in the process. He didn't keep true to the source material and came up with a pop-psychology reason why Michael was evil in the first film, that being "He came from a bad home, so he was bad" and then in the second film tried to make it seem like it was a curse of the family? You can't do both! It's either destiny or bad upbringing. Zombie's style would have been better suited for the Friday the 13th Films.

As for the 2009 film, I liked it just fine. The look of the character is more an amalgam of several styles. Part 2 for the hair and the outdoors man survivor, part 3 with a Vs styled dirty coloring of the mask and a Part3 styled face.

I don't think Freddy's new glove looks silly, just poorly designed. They made changed to make changes not because they had a better idea. I like the wrist clasp a lot and the finger tip cups are also nice. I think the four strips going up the back however make the glove more unwieldy and less stable and prone to twisting and bending because they are copper and copper is soft. I also think the hinges on the fingers being reversed is a bad idea because the fingers can get bent back and you could break your fingers or at least disjoint them. It's form over function. The original glove is designed to stop the fingers from bending back.

And Leatherface...he's a deranged cannibal that kills people with a chainsaw because he likes it. He tortures people till they die and skins them and wears their skin as a mask and eats their dead bodies. :D

Have you tried doing Haley's little finger claw twitch thing with an old-style Freddy glove? I think that was the purpose for the redesign, because I cannot for the life of me do that with my claw. It might have been less stable so he could be more flexible with it. And just saying, I don't think breaking fingers is really a problem for Freddy. Hell, he used to cut them off.

PS: That's probably the best description of Leatherface I've ever heard.

I don't believe they redesigned it specifically so he could scrape the blades, lol. As far as I've read he did it because the glove could do it and wanted to add some sort of characteristic to his version of Freddy.

I'm just saying, I've tried it with the old style glove and it doesn't work. I have to assume the other glove is more flexible. I thought it was a cool little nervous twitch though.

Depends on the glove. The VS glove will do it as will the Part 6 and 5. The glove being more flexible isn't quite the reason why you can do it. It's more the angle the fingers sit at relative to the back of the hand so that when you close your fingers the blades criss-cross over your palm. The more curved the backplate the more the fingers will angle inwards when you close your fingers.

Maybe mine's just too bulky. I only ever saw Haley's Freddy do the little two-finger twitch thing, so I just assumed the glove was made to be more flexible for that reason. I just got one of the metal replica's that come in the box.

Yeah, it was just something he did to add something to his performance. Sort of like things that Robert did that were just what he added to the part. Like how he always tucks in his ring finger further than any other finger closerto his palm when he poses for promotional pictures. Like this:

If you watch him in the films carefully enough you'll start seeing him do that too.

HOLY S-WORD i did not know that leatherface eats people's dead bodies, my gosh!
well maybe rob zombie might have done good with the friday reboot, but i guess he liked halloween, but wow!,i guess you really hate the guy

well i think jason looked perfect in the reboot(and i think they got the leather jacket from FVJ)
i thought you thought freddys claws looked silly becaued you said that in one of your replys to someone well think what you want to think and to tell you something when i first saw the character when i was a kid (while it was Fvj)i thought he was wearing a red and black stripe sweater(while i think it looks good on him)

while i did'nt grow up with these charcters when i was a kid but don't get so ticked off,its just what the people now made them, sorry if they ruined michael

and do you argee with a JvMvAvL jason vs michael vs alien vs leatherface(well,TCM(texas chainsaw masscare)came out in 1974,halloween came out in 1978,alien came out in 1979,and finnaly friday the 13th came out in 1980)

Can't really ruin a character. XD It's not like I have to watch the Rob Zombie films. They just sucked. i don't hate Rob Zombie either, he's a good director on his OWN material. The Devil's Rejects is a great film.

That wasn't a leather jacket XD Jason wasn't wearing a leather jacket in Vs or the remake. In Vs it was a sort of sport jacket and was cloth but tattered and in the reboot it was a black work jacket...denim I believe. XD

No, I said it was silly, but not because it looks bad but because it's been redesigned poorly. And no the Vs sweater was red and green. It looked black in dark lighting though. Have a look at this shot: [link] See, in brighter lighting it's green ;)

I'm not ticked off. XD I'm not like screaming at the keyboard while I type this. I just think they did a shit job remaking Michael Myers XD

lol, it's OK, I'm just trying to have a nice talk too. I'm not like, getting angry or anything.

Like I said, the sweater in Vs was dyed really dark so in dark lighting it appears black so it's an easy mistake to make. Wes Craven originally made it red and green because seeing those colors together makes your eyes hurt. It has to do with how your eyes process the colors and when they're together they clash.

You haven't seen the right shades, The remake used a darker red and green than Wes used in the first film. and it's not really when mixed, just when they are right next to each other. Here: [link] If you look at it you'll notice the red and green stripes vibrate and you'll start to feel your eyes strain and get tired.
