Troughton Baker Sonics by Police-Box-Traveler Troughton Baker Sonics by Police-Box-Traveler
This is a close up shot of the Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker model Sonic Screwdrivers I have in my Doctor Who prop collection. I figured that I would put these two together in a picture since these are direct replicas based on the TV series and give everyone a better look.

Thanks again, so much for the feature. I still would like to suggest using this instead: police-box-traveler.deviantart… as the sonic in this picture wasn't completed in the modifications yet. I still needed to extend the emitter, put on the smaller burgundy colored emitter halo, replace the screw with one that was painted to match the emitter halo and finish painting the grooves in the body in black...also the other has his Tardis key with it. Also the 4th Doctor used this police-box-traveler.deviantart… for his last season. Not that I'm not grateful for the feature mind you, I'm always glad when someone takes an interest in my work, I just think I have a few better pics. I'll leave the decision up to you though, lol. Thanks again. ^_^ Tom Baker is my personal favorite Doctor after all. ^_^

Oh wow, this is marvelous.
So THAT'S what the original Sonic looks like. Every picture or piece of footage I could find of it never really showed it off. Glad to see it's more than just a simple laser pointer, even with such a simple design it has a degree of intricacy about it.
Very nice. My, that little gadget sure has come a long way 300 years further into the Doctor's life cycle.

Well...sort of. It was a close approximation but it turns out this one is still wrong. It was just a pen light back then too but it was a different model of pen light. I'm still trying to find one XD

The Baker sonic has gotten even more accurate and better since this was taken and the Traughton sonic is getting a face lift with a custom machined body soon. :D

Well, it was because I reworked the Baker sonic myself. I sent some specs to Russ and had him make me custom halos and had him powder coat them in a burgundy color. I added a few other details and got this: [link]

I'll try too. My Pertwee needs a bit of work though. I got one of the last of Russ' Pertwee's and it's in rough shape. XP

This is the 1st time I ever saw the Mark I sonic screwdriver in detail. I always wondered what it looked like. Best of luck for me, it's a photo of a direct replica of the actual prop, no less. Do they make the "official sonic screwdriver sound effect versions" as made by the originals in the show? Does your 4th Doctor sonic screwdriver have interchangeable heads? Does the light on your Mark 1 sonic screwdriver light up? Also, where did you get those models? I'd like to get my own, if I can.

Well, it's not technically a direct replica as they used a simple pen light for the original. XD This is also a pen light that I mildly modded to look a little less like a pen light by stripping the powder coat off and polishing out and ditching the pen clip and replacing the incandescent bulb with an led. It of course does light. XD As for the other well, no sonic prop had a sound effect in the show. that was added in post. The pen light doesn't have sound but I do own a 4th Doctor type with sound...no, it's not inexpensive. XP It's a $200 piece and goes for a lot more aftermarket if anyone that owns one wants to sell it that is. As for where I got them well, the pen light is listed as a Gem Grading light on eBay but you need to work it over and the other I bought from the maker that was selling them in a run you needed to sign up for. I recently modded it for accuracy with a smaller emitter halo in burgundy and added a few other details here and there.

Ah. Does the Baker one have interchangeable heads?

Well, as interchangable as threading it off and putting another on if you have it. The removable head thing was an accident in the episode Robot because it came off during filming. Any changes in the emitter head were down to damage the prop took from Mr. Baker during filming requiring the prop to be refurbished and repaired. I have made a few variations with different parts. The ring in red, burgundy and even plain silver, I have one with the emitter bullet and output end in all red and a few different neck pieces in either red or brass colored. Any other functions on the show like the extending emitter were done for that episode and never were used again like in Genesis of the Daleks. I didn't buy an extending type as i find them to be too fragile really.

Well, almost a decade really XD Funy thing is the 4th Doctor type sonic was a prop from a completely different film altogether XD It was a hand tool from 1966's Thunderbirds are GO!" film. here, check it out: [link]

I do too though a pen light is just cheating XD I would love to see someone tackle this as a prop and kinda detail it a bit.
