New Arrivals For My Collection by Police-Box-Traveler New Arrivals For My Collection by Police-Box-Traveler
FINALLY managed to get a couple pieces for my Character Options figures. The new 8th Doctor featuring a recolored comic book styled costume just came in the mail yesterday and is really quite good. One thing I like is that they finally fixed the eyelash issue where previously there was none and made the figure looks a bit bug-eyed. I'd really like to get another of these figures to swap heads on the TV Movie body but unfortunately at their cheapest they are still going for roughly fifty US dollars and buying them parts out is still too high. On a side note, Dalek Alpha that this figure comes with is pretty sweet.

The next figure is the John Hurt portrayed "Other Doctor" or "War Doctor" and is actually a nice figure as well. He comes with a short haired 8th Doctor head that I find doesn't look quite right on this body  and an accessory of "The Moment" which seems to be left around somewhere...I'm assuming it will show up in the series again eventually. I had planned to replace his hands with less...clenched hands but none of the figures I have have matched flesh tones so I'll have to try painting at LEAST a left hand so he looks a tad more natural but that aside it's a very nice likeness.

I missed out on getting that Eighth Doctor figure, and it's too expensive on Ebay now. But I already made a custom version that looks pretty similar.

I had found a US seller that had him for around $40-ish shipped so I got seriously lucky. I had seen some sellers trying to sell this for like $90! Yikes! Too much. But hey, I actually like your custom so I think you're set. I can't do full repaints like that myself.

Right now it's just a matter of waiting until the Eleventh/Twelfth Doctor set is available outside the US and UK, on Ebay or somewhere else. I'm saving up so I can afford it no matter what the price tag. I even found a link to it in it's packaging, so you can see how nice the figure is and what it comes with:

Other than that, the 3 inch version of Capaldi's costume is finally coming out, I don't know whether to get it or wait and see if there's a 5 inch version later though.

Yeah I had seen that. Nice to know they tooled up a 12th Doctor head for the 5 inch scale. Hope that means he'll get his own body, but in the mean time, the 11th Doctor setup...THAT I want. I wanted that costume much more to replace the blue/red alternates of his Season 5 costume, lol.

Yeah that looks neat. Just wish I had more interest in the 3.75 inh figures but...there's a Genesis Dalek in there...wonder if they will start releasing classic series toys in the 3.75 inch line now.

Yeah, that costume's easily my favourite of any that Matt ever wore... I kinda miss the costume more than the Doctor. That purple, I remember thinking Eleven would look good in purple before his first costume was seen being filmed. As for having a five inch Twelfth Doctor, at least there's one version coming out. And it comes with Handles, so maybe a 5 inch Cyberman will be released too. Also, I loved the elderly makeup for Eleven's final scenes on Trenzalore, so to have that is gonna be great.

I know, right? That purple and the details like the fob chain on his vest anfd the textures of the jacket. It's a great costume over his initial costume. Much more...Doctor-ish to me.

Yeah, I just hope they release 12's suit he'll be wearing more than just the one 11 was wearing for the regeneration.

And yeah I hope they release some more modern stuff in 5 inch scale. The recent Cyberman design would be nice in 5 inches for my Cyberman collection.

When it came back in 2005, it didn't matter as much for me with Eccleston and his leather jacket, but Tennant never really felt like The Doctor to me, for various reasons, one of them being his really modern dress sense. I feel like something was lost in the RTD years. But when Matt Smith came along and started wearing tweed and bowties, the traditional style of costumes was back finally. Everything Matt wore was eccentric and timeless, even more so when he started wearing a coat and waistcoat in... the 2012 Christmas special and series 7 last year. It's finally a return to the kind of clothes worn by Colin Baker, Paul McGann, all the way back to Hartnell even.

Now with Twelve's costume... it's kind of a recoloured version of what he's wearing when he regenerates, a coat and a vest but no bowtie anymore.

Even if the 3 inch figures I got last year end up being a waste, I hope so too.

I kina had a jaded reaction to Eccleston because he was so different than the Doctor's I gre up with, but Tennant, while looking a bit more modern still had a lot of qualities to his wardrobe that reminded me of a classic Doctor. The added long coat he didn't always wear, the suit that was cut the same but what different colors and the variations in the way he wore a tie or wore the collar of his shirt and of course the trainers he took inspiration from the 5th Doctor, but in many respects that was more a JNT Who influence. When 11 showed up, he reminded me more of an 80's nerd and that was very modern. When he showed up in a longer coat and vest in that Christmas special I was prepared for them to turn it back but when they kept that look, I was so pleased. That was classic Who wardrobe right there. Can't wait to get a figure of that outfit.

Kinda, though I noticed the jacket seems different. Single button with a slight operatic look to it. Kinda like a streamlined 3rd Docgtor's outfit with no frills. It's interesting though it still seems a bit modern. The modern series seems to be almost stuck in their lead actors looking like they all come from the 70's and 80's despite some wardrobe elements being older, like Eccleston's WW2 jacket or the 60's-ish cut of Tennants suit or Smith's vintage 50's styled shoes.

I wouldn't mind buying some of the 3 inch figures but they just don't do it for me...though that classic Dalek makes me think we might get some classic Doctor's in that scale, and if we DO...I'll be all over them, lol. Not that I'll stop collecting the 5 inch figures, but I'd love a 4th Doctor in GI Joe scale to go with my other 3 inch figures that doesn't look so basic like the Dapol figures.

It seems curious to me that Character Options would sculpt a Dark Eyes Eighth Doctor head yet pair it with the War Doctor, since the look doesn't match how he was in "Night of the Doctor".

Unless CO was originally planning on a full Dark Eyes figure that got scuppered, and the introduction of the War Doctor afforded them the chance to release something for it.

Yeah it is a little strange to make an updated head and only include it as an accessory for a body he didn't wear. Oh well, I'm having someone make me the Dark Eyes body for the extra head.
