Description
Well, I finally finished my Custom Hardware Steampunk-ish Sonic Screwdriver.
Originally I was going to feature a prop made by another gentleman built in a similar way to this here...but after I had received the item I realized I couldn't use it for photos. It's a long story but basically...lets just say a wooden stick with metal parts glued on it... SO! After that I had decided to build my own, my way.
Mostly this is plumbing hardware and modified components. I didn't have a lathe so I faked it and put parts I needed to turn into my drill press and filed them while spinning and making it into a passable make shift lathe.
I built it so the casing is a battery compartment and has removable watch batteries.
I also made the button out of a stainless steel bolt that I had "lathed" down which I thought nicely set off the soldering work I had done to the emitters neck and the brass plug I made for the back end.
The over all size of this sonic is JUST over 5 inches.
I plan to make a few more prototypes, one of which will go to a friend in Arizona named Ken. Great guy and helped me immensely with building my Evil Dead Chainsaw.
Another will be going to a friend that is here on DA named Carthoris who made for me, an all brass Tom Baker style sonic screwdriver out of the sheer awesomeness of his heart. His sonic was used BTW in this pic here: [link] as well as this one here: [link] He's an awesome guy and a big lover of Doctor Who and I figure this is the LEAST I can do to thank him.
The last one of the prototypes will be sent to my "companion" Angie. Angie is an artist friend I know and she is a huge fan of Doctor Who...thanks to me. XD I want to send her something special so, I figure this will be pretty good. She does AMAZING art. Check this shot of me as the Doctor and her as my companion: [link]
You can view additional art of hers here on here blog: [link] and here: [link]
After I'm done refining my process, I'm going to try to sell these in a limited fashion on eBay. I'm going to try to cut my turn around time and parts cost and bring the quality up and sell these for around $50.00 plus shipping.
So...tell me...who would be interested in one?

Awesome work. Where did you find the little brass pipe fittings for this? I've got a project in mind and was hoping for a bunch of bright brass pipe fittings with fun little details on them.
