Classic Series Sonic Screwdriver Collection

And they aren't the toy version either!

I finally added another piece to my collection that I've been wanting to fill in a gap, that being the 5th Doctor era sonic screwdriver.

A brief description here of the sonics and their accompanying keys. The 2nd Doctor's sonic screwdriver is indeed just a penlight. Back when they first introduced the tool they used a simple penlight for the sonic. It seems a bit lazy to some in retrospect but to my mind it makes sense that the Doctor would have the tool disguised as something as simple as a penlight. Now the model I have isn't the exact model used by the production in the 60's unfortunately but it is as close as I can get...for now. The key there with it is a blanked and polished Yale key but I'll be replacing that as soon as I can get the correct era Yale stamped key cut to fit my lock.

Next is my 3rd Doctor's sonic. It's an FX sonic made by RB Replicas in the UK that I customized...a lot. The entire emitter assembly has been reworked and includes a smaller diameter emitter halo and a few greeblies here and there. The body and grip were completely re-striped as well including on the yellow and black spiral section which means only the yellow itself is the only thing color-wise that is stock. The key there is a Mooncrest Models key on a custom 3mm rolo chain.

The 4th Doctor's sonic you may have seen in my gallery before. Much like the 3rd Doctor's sonic it also features a smaller diameter halo only painted burgundy this time and a custom black emitter magnet. It's also an FX sonic made by RB Replicas. The key, is also a Mooncrest key. This time though it's slightly retooled and is more based on the key that Tom Baker used as the 4th Doctor. I strung that on a stainless steel curb chain.

Next is the new addition, the 5th Doctor's sonic. This one is also an RB Replicas sound FX sonic like the last two. I usually prefer to use these as, even though they aren't 100% accurate with some minor work here and there they are amazingly close. Even though Tom Baker used the sonic in this color scheme for his last year as the Doctor, Peter Davison used it for awhile longer in his run and as many know, this is how it looked before it was finally destroyed in "The Visitation" complete with the bright red emitter halo and matching emitter magnet. The white band on the thumb rest in the mid section actually appears as during the 4th Doctor's era as far back as...I want to say series 13 or 14 but most associate it with the final years of the sonic so I only have it here on the Davison sonic. The key that is with it is not a mistake. The Tardis Key that many associate with the show actually reverted back after a time and it was indeed confirmed in the 5th Doctor serial "Black Orchid" that the key was a simple Yale key again. That of course changed in Sylvester McCoy's last year when he went back to a special key again but seeing as how he didn't have a sonic screwdriver we have to skip forward a bit to...

The 8th Doctor's sonic and key. This is another RB Replicas piece though, because of the design there is no room for electronics so this is just a straight up replica. With this one though the upper section actually collapses into the body much as the original prop did for the 1996 TV movie. I didn't customize this much though, just a bit of hardware tweaking to the emitter to make it a bit more solid. The key that goes with it is indeed an actual 800-TREKKER key replica made in the 90's and they are kinda rare these days.

That's it folks. This is my classic sonic replica set so far. I still want to get the 6th Doctor's sonic lance sometime either by building or buying one and I could technically include Romana's sonic in here but I wanted this to be strictly the Doctor's classic series sonics so no Romana and nothing past the 1996 TV movie.
