Description
Batman! It's been a really interesting evolution for the Caped Crusader. When he first started out he was dressing up as a bat to scare criminals but as time went on and certain sensibilities changed his suit became less of a way to dress up AS a bat and became more of a bat-themed costume in much the same way Spiderman wasn't dressing up as a spider rather than had spider themes decorating his costume.
Admittedly the blue costume was not a favorite of mine throughout the 1990'swhen Batman's suit changed to black and gray and the logo on his chest changed back to a plain black bat silhouette and even more, his utility belt became brown leather pouches. Recently though when I was going back to some of the comics I grew up on and much of the 1960's and 70's that I didn't get to read when they were first issued, I realized that this suit is still one of the classic greats and thanks to artists like Neal Adams and Dick Giordano and writers like Denny O'neil this suit has come to represent the greatest of Batman to me and much less the goofy Batman people typically associate it with.
In this collection there are many of my classic Batman figures, most of which as DC Direct but a couple are different. One is my original 1984 Super Powers Batman and another is the Batman: The Brave and the Bold figure. The rest are:
Back row, left to right, Crisis On Infinite Earth's Batman, The Killing Joke Batman, and the History of the DC Universe Batman. Next row is the "New Look" Batman of 1964 and the Detective Comics Boxed Set Batman. Then next row forward is the Superfriends Batman and my Neal Adams type reissue Batman from the JLA Boxed Set.

This is the Batman that I grew up with too, that Yellow Oval. Be it with blue or even black, I always identify the oval as MY Batman. I enjoy the "New Look" Batman you have there ,one of the first DC Direct figures I ever got, but he took a bad shelf dive one day and his leg snapped in two. I gave the Killing Joke Bats to my current girlfriend as something to remember our special day by.
Of those I always had a distaste for the Crisis on Infinite Earths Batman...I've read somewhere that he was actually meant to be part of the Knightfall series but got schlepped to this one when that series was cancelled. Not sure if it's true or not but I never cared for that headsculpt.
Otherwise, love the Bats hehe
